The exhibition Secrets between the Branches is based on the latest works of Maciejka Art and Cristina Kahlo, which reflect on the interaction between man and nature through the medium of photography.

Polish-born Maciejka Art is living in Mexico for seven years. During her years there, her interests have so far focused on the community of José María Morelos, a small Afro-descendant community in Oaxaca, and the power of the nature. A local herb named Hoja Santa, a common ingredient in both cooking and traditional Mexican medicine, has become a key motif in Maciejka’s work exhibited here.

Born in Mexico City, Cristina Kahlo has been working for the past four years on a series in which she has recreated the story of Daphne and Apollo from Greek mythology with her own visuality. In her photographs, the central axis revolves around trees, creating a new narrative mode, which the artist has titled “I grew up in the shade of trees”.
Art and Kahlo’s works exhibited here are characterised by their mixing of different techniques and the use of subsequent interventions and interventions in the images. Collages and the reworking and colouring of black and white photographs extend the imaginary world of the exhibition Secrets between the Branches. The works highlight the quotidian presence of interactions between humans and nature, while the photographs also reveal the multifaceted symbolism of a feminine universe.
